QUILTING FOR BEGINNERS
So, how did it all begin, you might ask. Three years ago I was visiting my friend in Queensland and was admiring a quilt that she was making. I was certain that I couldn't do anything like it. (My last try was years ago when the children were small - it was dismal!)
The creative juices had been stirred and I felt a longing to try again. Where did I start looking for help? YouTube of course. I googled "How to make an easy patchwork quilt". I realised that I could stop the video, rewind and watch again - as many times as I needed. YouTube wasn't around 20 odd years prior. Maybe, just maybe this was the tool that I needed. I am a visual learner and I have to be shown step by step.
Another resource that wasn't around during my first attempt were pre-cut fabrics. Jelly rolls, charm packs, layer cakes and more. (Well, they may have been but I didn't know about them.) Also, we didn't have Spotlight back then either. But, more about pre-cuts fabrics in another post.
I didn't want to do a huge quilt - that was beyond me, but a baby quilt was a perfect size. Luckily, the nephews obliged and a baby girl was to arrive. So I bought a jelly roll, a new Singer sewing machine, cutting mat, quilting ruler and a rotary cutter. I was armed with the basics. Now all I had to do was pluck up the courage and start.
Don't forget to leave a message, I'd love to hear from you xx.
