Alycia Lacey - Christmas Quilt

 Hello dear friends,

To start off the new year I thought that I would ask some quilter friends to contribute to my blog, quiltingpleasure.blogspot.com   Each week I will feature a new quilter and gorgeous quilts.

These ladies are amazing and most have been quilting far longer than I have and are much more knowledgeable than me.  I am in awe of their creations and I wanted to share them with you.

The first quilter extraordinaire is Mrs Alycia Lacey of "Pine View".  Our daughter has spent the last 2 years as a governess on their sheep station.  The women of the outback are truly amazing and their strength of character is inspiring.

Alycia works on the station all hours of the day, is a wife and a mother to 2 gorgeous, clever and energetic boys.  I wonder how she has time  to complete such beautiful works of art.  Alycia shares a long arm quilting machine with her mother-in-law and comes up with not only stunning blocks but quilting that I could only dream of doing.

Alycia's latest quilt has been made for her mother-in-law.  It is a Christmas quilt but I would love it on display all the time.

When did you start quilting?
"I started patchwork and quilting about 8 years ago. I was very fortunate to have my husband’s Nan spend a week with the family for a sewing week. She got me to make a 9 patch quilt and each square was different with some of the most common techniques. From then on I found a real passion for it and continued to learn through her and also my Mother in law and Aunty. They have all been sewing for ever and have taught me most things.
I also use Pinterest a lot for ideas and techniques."

What is your favourite quilt that you have made?
"It’s hard to pick a favourite but maybe my pot plant quilt. Also the one I’m most proud of, is the 365 day challenge quilt I did with a group. A block a day and over that year I learnt A LOT!! So many new techniques and so many tricky ones, especially in the 3 1/2inch squares. I have a love hate relationship with that quilt as there was a lot of frustration in making it but feel proud I achieved it in the end."
I would probably rate the Christmas quilt easy if you have knowledge of some common techniques for the blocks and embroidery experience. I really enjoyed making the Christmas quilt as it was my first red work and it was a very appreciated gift for my Mother in law who I sew with regularly."

Next project? "Not too sure on my next project at the moment but hopefully one with the sewing group again as I enjoy doing the same project with others to chat about them and also see how they go about it.
