Hello, my name is Rhonda and I would like to welcome you to my very first blog - ever!

I am 56, married with 3 adult children and about to become a grandmother.  I live on the South Coast of NSW Australia, where we have the most stunning beaches and mountains.

I love creating, design, colour and fabric (I'm not amazing but I have fun).  I wanted to create a blog that was beautiful and interesting.  I want to help others who want to learn how to make a patchwork quilt and free motion quilting.

I want to tell people how I got started and show them how it is possible to create a quilt with no sewing experience.

I want to help those who feel intimidated by the whole process - choosing a pattern, colour scheme and fabric. Then, horror of horrors going into a fabric shop and feeling like a big dummy, not knowing where to begin.  Sometimes the sales assistants are condescending and make you feel even worse.  I know I've been there!

I want to show you my love of colour and fabric through quilts and my love of beauty pleasures in all sorts of places and situations.

Do you have a passion for creating, design, colour and fabric and the desire to create your very own quilts?  Then come with me on a wonderful adventure and make new friends.

My goals for this blog is to

  •  build a community of folks with like-minded interests and passions,
  • create a high value resource for you through posts,
  • to create a space and atmosphere where you will gain confidence just to make a start and then to continue your quilting journey, and
  • to have fun, whilst making new friends.
Disclaimer: I am no expert!  But I like to make quilts and do free motion quilting.  I had no experience when I started, but have managed to make 30+ quilts in 3 years.  I want to encourage others who think they can't begin.

QUILTING FOR BEGINNERS

Well hello friends and welcome to my first official post. So, how did it all begin, you might ask.  Three years ago I was visiting my friend in Queensland and was admiring a quilt that she was making.  I was certain that I couldn't do anything like it.  (My last try was years ago when the children were small -  it was dismal!) The creative juices had been stirred and I felt a longing to try again.  Where did I start looking for help?  YouTube of course.  I googled "How to make an easy patchwork quilt".  I realised that I could stop the video, rewind and watch again - as many times as I needed.  YouTube wasn't around 20 odd years prior.  Maybe, just maybe this was the tool that I needed.  I am a visual learner and I have to be shown step by step. Alycia Lacey - Christmas Quilt

  Hello dear friends, To start off the new year I thought that I would ask some quilter friends to contribute to my blog, quiltingpleasure.blogspot.com   Each week I will feature a new quilter and gorgeous quilts. These ladies are amazing and most have been quilting far longer than I have and are much more knowledgeable than me.  I am in awe of their creations and I wanted to share them with you. The first quilter extraordinaire is Mrs Alycia Lacey of "Pine View".  Our daughter has spent the last 2 years as a governess on their sheep station.  The women of the outback are truly amazing and their strength of character is inspiring. Elizabeth Gliske Bulow

  Hello dear friends, Elizabeth Gliske Bulow is my next quilter extraordinaire.  I met Elizabeth through a Facebook Group called Lo & Behold Patterns.  I asked if anyone would like to be a quilting pen pal with me.  I received lots of replies and I now have a core group of ladies who have become my very special friends.  They tell me about the USA and Canada and I tell them about Australia.  It is so interesting learning about their cultures and traditions.  We love chatting about our quilts that we are working on and I feel very blessed to call these amazing women my friends.
