Robyn Regan

 Hello dear friends,

Robyn Regan is this week's quilter extraordinaire. Robyn is another of my American quilting friends. She is a wife, mother to a dear little boy and a full-time teacher.  Another very busy lady! I'm so glad that Robyn still can enjoy her talent for creating beautiful quilts.

We would love to get to know you Robyn........

My name is Robyn Regan and I am a beginner quilter. Thank you, Rhonda, for asking me to be a guest contributor to your blog!

About Me: I am from Virginia, USA where I live with my husband, JJ, and our son, Jake. We have a dog named Penny who keeps us running with her energy. I work full-time as a Kindergarten teacher in the public school system. I love exercising with BeachBody and doing Yoga with Adriene, cooking new recipes with my son in the kitchen, reading Robyn Carr books, and doing various crafts. Quilting Beginnings: During the pandemic, I tried to find healthy ways to manage my stress while being creative. My grandmother taught me how to embroider and basic crochet techniques. I’ve made decorative pillow shams, a crocheted baby blanket for my sister’s child, and various other crafts.

After doing that for a while, I thought more about how I wanted to sew using a sewing machine but I hadn’t done it since my high school home economics class where we had to make a pillow. I have always loved the look of quilts in homes and the feeling that you get when you crawl under one to watch a movie, read a book, or snuggle with loved ones.

I reached out to a good friend of mine who offered to teach me how to use a sewing machine. It was so kind of her to teach me the various parts of a sewing machine, how to wind a bobbin, how to thread a sewing machine, and let me practice sewing lines on fabric using her machine. When we met, I brought with me some jelly roll fabric and thread that I had bought off of Amazon as well as a beginner friendly pattern that I had printed online, which I thought would be a great first project. She helped me read the directions, understand the steps, and give me pointers. It took us 2 sessions together to review the directions for making the quilt top, assemble the top alongside the batting and backing fabric, and binding it.

It was such a wonderful and memorable experience for me that I started to think about what else I could do for my next quilting project.

Next Steps: For Christmas, my mother generously bought me a sewing machine that I have loved learning on and experimenting with. I was so surprised by her present and I am so grateful. This month I joined a sew along with my friend where you make a new mystery quilt block each month for a year and at the end of the year you have a throw quilt that has enabled you to learn new sewing techniques. The Facebook group is called Sew Easy Block of the Month and I am excited to get started on it. It will be cool to see how our quilts are similar and different by the end of the experience.

Robyn is a very special lady with a very big heart. I love seeing a quilter's journey from, "I can't make a quilt." to "What can I try next?" I can't wait to see the finished Block of the Month quilt. I know  it will be stunning. I am so blessed to call Robyn my friend - I am looking forward to the next exciting chapter in her family's life.
