BASTING YOUR QUILT

Jenny Doan has used a layer cake of Kaffe Classics Prism 10" Squares by Kaffe Fassett for FreeSpirit Fabrics.  They are so colourful, vibrant and creative.  I adore them.  When you see the quilt hanging behind Jenny, you will be enchanted.

I promised that I would explain why you need 3 pool noodles when making your quilt sandwich. Watch this tutorial and you will understand.  Using pool noodles has been a game changer for me when putting the 3 layers (backing, batting and quilt top) together.

Now it is time to baste your quilt.  I have found a really great series of tutorials on YouTube from the Fat Quarter Shop, called the Ultimate Beginner Quilt Series.  You wouldn't have to do the quilt that she is doing but it is a great step by step guide to making a quilt from start to finish.  One of the episodes is basting your quilt.  Try this tutorial or find one one YouTube that you like.

I have actually never taped the fabric down or used the spray for basting (I've only ever used the pins), but I think I might try doing that next time.

    I absolutely love the book quilt! May have to go on my wish list!
    Also I have used the spray for basting with great success!! You must give it a go one day soon

Well hello friends and welcome to my first official post. So, how did it all begin, you might ask.  Three years ago I was visiting my friend in Queensland and was admiring a quilt that she was making.  I was certain that I couldn't do anything like it.  (My last try was years ago when the children were small -  it was dismal!) Alycia Lacey - Christmas Quilt

  Hello dear friends, To start off the new year I thought that I would ask some quilter friends to contribute to my blog, quiltingpleasure.blogspot.com   Each week I will feature a new quilter and gorgeous quilts. The first quilter extraordinaire is Mrs Alycia Lacey of "Pine View".  Our daughter has spent the last 2 years as a governess on their sheep station.  The women of the outback are truly amazing and their strength of character is inspiring. Elizabeth Gliske Bulow

  Hello dear friends, Elizabeth Gliske Bulow is my next quilter extraordinaire.  I met Elizabeth through a Facebook Group called Lo & Behold Patterns.  I asked if anyone would like to be a quilting pen pal with me.  I received lots of replies and I now have a core group of ladies who have become my very special friends.  They tell me about the USA and Canada and I tell them about Australia.  It is so interesting learning about their cultures and traditions.  We love chatting about our quilts that we are working on and I feel very blessed to call these amazing women my friends.
